My First Week At SMC.. and What Stuck

Hello all, and happy Monday! I’m Ben, the new intern at SMCpros, and I’m here to tell about my first week in the office. As someone who is entirely new to the world of social marketing (and marketing in general), my first week here has been quite the adventure. There have been a few things that really stuck out to me.

All-staff Meetings

I’m not sure what staff meetings are like at other agencies, but after having my first SMCpros staff meeting earlier this week, I can imagine that we do things a bit differently around here. It might have something to do with the Nerf guns, but that’s a story for another time. I’ve chosen to throw myself headfirst into the deep end of the social media marketing business and thus far I’ve been surrounded by some of the most supportive, professional, entertaining, and utterly fantastic people that I’ve ever met.

Commitment to Details

I admit that I was expecting to feel out of my element in my first few days here. I had never met any of the ‘pros before, and all things considered, I didn’t know very much about the place. What I did know was that they were a small company who were very good at what they did; after completing my first week, I can certainly see why. This is a business that runs on hard work, integrity, and pure dedication to each and every client and every task, no matter how small.

The details matter around here, and it’s nice to be surrounded by people who really care about the results, and who strive for perfection. Work doesn’t simply get done for the sake of completion at SMCpros; if it isn’t done well, it just isn’t done yet. The level of attention that gets placed on everything is staggering, and it makes me proud to be a part of it all.

Favorite Part? No Newbie Treatment

What’s been my favorite part so far? Well, I can happily report that I haven’t been asked to retrieve asingle cup of coffee for anyone, and in fact, my days have consisted of quite the opposite. I’ve been treated like a respected member of the staff since day one. I’ve attended strategy presentations, helped to build web pages, and have genuinely been treated like a member of the family.

Everyone wears many different hats at SMCpros, and if I had to pick one thing that I love the most, it’s that I’m not an exception to that rule. I’ve learned more in one week than I would have learned in a month anywhere else, and it’s the feeling that I’m trusted and accountable that makes me look forward to coming in every day. To put it plainly, I feel valued and important here, and even after the short amount of time that I’ve spent with the rest of the team, that feeling makes complete sense. Everyone here is unique, everyone plays a crucial role, and everyone loves what they do, pure and simple. It’s all part of what makes SMCpros such a wonderful place to be and definitely what makes us successful.
