Idea Aid global brainstorming session leverages social media

This Saturday saw the launch of the first online global brainstorming session aimed at collecting ideas to help raise $1 billion per year to eradicate global poverty.  As Mensa Process and Heifer International began to raise awareness of Idea Aid, they started leveraging social media to spread the word and gain support for the weeklong event November 14th – 21st.

At the time of writing this blog entry, 1,063 people have joined the Idea Aid Facebook Fan Page and over 200 people now follow Idea Aid on Twitter. By leveraging social media, Idea Aid was able to distribute updates and direct fans to register on the Idea Aid website.  Now that the brainstorming event is underway, these social media sites can be used to post the most popular ideas, provide statistical updates, encourage participants to invite their friends, and ask others to comment on donated ideas.

Check back for updates on the positive effects social media has had on Idea Aid.
