Twitter Lists

Twitter is finishing the roll out of the new Lists feature.  This started as a beta with a few lucky individuals and has slowly been rolling out across the rest of the user base.  As of yesterday, the majority of Twitter users have the new Lists feature.

Lists allows you to categorize the people you follow.  This feature even gives people the ability to do an one-click follow for a large List of people in categories of interest.  The whole point of this is to make it easier for individuals to find people to follow.

Now that the feature has been rolled out to the majority of users, Twitter is focusing on getting third party applications on board.  By providing the API to the Lists feature, Twitter wants third parties like Tweetdeck, Tweetie, and Seesmic to integrate the Lists feature into their programs.  Twitter would like people to be able to modify and create lists from within the programs themselves.  This is all exciting because it moves Twitter forward and puts things into a more organized manner.  I for one, can not wait for my favorite apps to integrate Lists.
