Facebook “Enhancements”

Last week Facebook made new “enhancements”. You now have both a News Feed and Live Feed. The News Feed is basically what used to be called highlights and gives you a broad summary of what is going on. Things that show up in the News Feed are things that Facebook thinks you would want to read based on your habits of what and who you look at. Things have been added back to the News Feed that used to be there but have been taken away during other “updates/upgrades”. A couple of examples of features that have been brought back are readers liking a status friends and being tagged in photos. The Live Feed is everything that is happening live as it happens. The Live Feed is pretty much what it used to be. Also new last week was “recommendations” or suggestions to “reconnect” on the right hand side when on your Live Feed or News Feed. This new reconnect feature has been quite a fiasco. Many people have been upset due to Facebook suggesting they reconnect with a loved one who happens to have passed away or an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend. Neither situation is a great thing to have happening. I myself have had Facebook suggest I reconnect with my grandmother and my aunt numerous times. I think Facebook needs to either ditch this element or restructure and evaluate the method in which it suggests people to reconnect with. The bottom line is I have heard mixed things from people on all these updates.  I have heard people say the News Feed does not show enough and the Live Feed shows too much. As Facebook continues to evolve so will people’s expectations and that will be an interesting road to go down.
