Decisions: Facebook Fan Page options

Did you know there are over 60 different types of Facebook Fan Pages?  There are three general categories to choose from:

  1. Local Business
  2. Brand, Product or Organization
  3. Artist, Band or Public Figure

Each general category has a list of specific Fan Page options that provide a mixture of information fields within the Pages.

My point is that not all Fan Pages are the same.  There are options, and the one you choose can impact the type of information fields you see on the Page.

Have you ever found a Fan Page listed under a different category than you expected?  For example, an automotive shop has been listed as a restaurant. There are at least two reasons why this might happen. The first is that there was an error by the creator of the Fan Page as it happens.  The second reason could be that the Fan Page creator didn’t like the profile fields provided in a particular Fan Page option and decided to go with one that allowed them to display better information.

Looking at the example of the automotive shop, the creator of the Page could’ve thought that displaying Address, City/Town, Zip, Phone, Hours, Website, Parking options, and Public Transit details was simply not enough information.  The Page creator probably selected the restaurant Page so they could include all of the automotive options plus list Payment Options and General Manager Information.

As you start to create Fan Pages, remember to be aware of the types of information you would like to display.  If you are not satisfied with the information fields and tab options provided to you by Facebook, there are services online that will allow you to add additional bells and whistles to your Pages.
