Facebook Search Provides New Opportunities for Business

By Tyler Olson | August 11, 2009

Today Facebook made two significant announcements: the acquisition of FriendFeed and the release of its next generation of search (which is still not activated in our Facebook accounts as of the time of this post). Both of these announcements are meant to enhance Facebook features where it currently has significant weaknesses when compared to Twitter. One of Twitter’s most valuable assets is its search functionality which allows you to search for keywords within certain geographic areas. For example, during the recent storm in the twin cities this past weekend, many people tweeted about the storm and were providing their followers updates on any hail damage they received. Businesses that repair windows, roofs, and cars have an opportunity to respond to those who had damage to help them out. Facebook, now with over 250 million members, will have the same search ability as well – providing many new opportunities to more effectively market to those in need.

Working with a Social Media Company such as SMCpros allows you to stay on the frontline of the marketing opportunities that present themselves. Stay up to date by asking us about our managed social media plans.
